What is IoT, and where does O2 fit?

The Internet of Things means connecting anything with an on/off switch to the internet and to each other: lamps, washing machines, doors, pumps. O2 is the server that lets those things talk, decide and report back to you.

From a thing to the Internet of Things

The idea is simple when you take one light as the example. It's also central to the Dubai IoT Strategy.

  1. A thing

A light with a switch on the wall.

  2. A smart thing

A light that turns on when someone walks in.

  3. Things talking

The light, the door and the AC share what they know through O2.

  4. IoT

You see and control all of it from your phone, anywhere.

What O2 does with IoT

O2 takes your commands and the conditions around it, uses its rules and AI to decide what should happen next, and does it.

Home automation

A multipurpose system for doors, windows, cash safes and temperature, responding in 0.2 seconds.

Smart home automation

Door monitoring

Exit doors checked 2,000 times a second, 24/7, with live push notifications and photos.

Matter over Thread

Matter is the shared standard backed by Amazon, Apple, Google and Samsung that lets smart devices from different brands work together. O2 supports Matter over Thread using the Silicon Labs MG24, a single-chip solution with strong radio performance, Secure Vault security and low power use.
